Sardinia October 2024
Our nine-day trip to Sardinia began with our landing in Cagliari. Right at the airport, we picked up our rental car and drove along the coast to the southwest of the island to Sant’Antioco. After several days filled with sea, nature, and tranquility, we finally returned to Cagliari, where we relaxed and let the trip come to a close.
Itinerary
Cagliari
27 – Sep 29, 2024
In Cagliari, we explored the historic old town with the districts of Stampace and Marina. We wandered through the narrow streets, discovered small cafés, and enjoyed the view from the bastions over the harbor.
Stampace & Marina
On the second day, we walked through the narrow streets of Stampace — colorful facades, small balconies, and the scent of fresh coffee everywhere. The church with the impressive staircase was a highlight. In the afternoon, we refreshed ourselves with iced tea in a café overlooking the park.
Pizzeria on the first evening
On the evening of our arrival, we tried a pizzeria in the old town. The Neapolitan pizzas were good, but unfortunately, the service was very slow — a somewhat mixed start that did not detract from our excitement for the rest of the trip.
Sant'Anna Arresi
Sep 29 – Oct 3, 2024
From Sant'Anna Arresi, we explored the southwest coast of Sardinia. The quiet location was the perfect starting point for day trips to the most beautiful beaches on the island.
Porto Pino
On the first two days, we went to the Spiaggia di Porto Pino. The drive over a somewhat bumpy road is worth it — the beach is expansive, the sand fine and light, and the water shallow and crystal clear. Above all: hardly any other people. A place to breathe.
Coastal road SP71
On the third day, we drove along the SP71 along the south coast — a dreamlike coastal road right by the sea. We stopped repeatedly to enjoy the view and take photos. Rocky coves, turquoise water, and the scent of macchia.
Sant'Antioco
3 – Oct 6, 2024
From Sant'Antioco, we took the ferry to Carloforte on the Isola di San Pietro. The small fishing village with its colorful houses and narrow streets enchanted us immediately.
We spent two full days on San Pietro — mornings watching the sunrise at the harbor, daytime hikes along the cliffs, and in the evenings fresh fish in the restaurants by the water.
Panificio Calabro
Every morning we started the day at the Panificio Calabro in Carloforte. Fresh croissants, crispy pastries, and perfect cappuccino — the small café quickly became our favorite place in the morning. The atmosphere in the quiet square at sunrise was priceless.
Raices Tapas
On the first evening in Sant'Antioco, we discovered the Raices Tapas. A culinary highlight of the entire trip: Sardinian cheese platters, homemade tortellini in broth, ravioli with flower garnishes, and a perfect dessert.
On the last day, we explored the west coast of San Pietro with its dramatic rock formations before taking the ferry back to Portoscuso.
